Berkshire has been the scene of many battles. Berkshire battles include the Battle of Englefield, the Battle of Ashdown and the Battle of Reading. During the English Civil War there were two Berkshire battles in Newbury. During the Glorious Revolution of 1688, there was a second Berkshire Battle at Reading, also known as the "Battle of Broad Street".

Directions:

Exit the M4 at junction 11 take the exit on the roundabout onto the A33 signposted Reading. Continue straight ahead along the A33 towards Reading for about 10 minutes. You will go down under a bridge and exit left signposted Garrard Street Car Park Yell building on your right . At the roundabout take the 3rd exit into Friar Street turn left at the traffic light onto Greyfriar Road and take first right onto Garrard Street. You can park at the NCP car park there and the hotel is 1 min. walk.
