Berkshire has been the scene of many battles. Berkshire battles include the Battle of Englefield, the Battle of Ashdown and the Battle of Reading. During the English Civil War there were two Berkshire battles in Newbury. During the Glorious Revolution of 1688, there was a second Berkshire Battle at Reading, also known as the "Battle of Broad Street".

From London and the East via the M4 Take the M4 heading West. Exit at Junction 10 signposted Reading Wokingham Bracknell then join the A329 M signposted Reading Follow the A3290 forward entering Reading. Branch left signposted Reading then at roundabout take the 1st exit onto London Rd A4. At Cemetery Junction continue forward signposted M4 West Basingstoke A33 Newbury keep in right hand lane then at traffic signals turn right onto Sidmouth Street signposted Town Centre . At traffic signals turn right onto Queens Rd A329 signposted Queens Rd Forbury Rd . At traffic signals bear left onto Watlington St sign posted All Routes . At traffic signals continue forward onto Forbury Rd. At roundabout take the 1st exit onto Forbury Rd A329. At roundabout take the 1st exit onto Forbury Rd sign posted Station . Turn left onto Blagrave Street. Turn left onto Valpy Street and follow the road around to right. Turn left at the War Memorial and you will see the Hotel on your left.
